NEMA Provides Relief to Flood and Erosion Victims in Akwa Ibom Federal Constituency

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed food relief materials to residents affected by flood and erosion disasters in Ikot Abasi, Mkpat Enin, and Eastern Obolo Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State. The intervention forms part of the Federal Government’s Special Humanitarian Support for disaster-affected communities.

The distribution exercise took place at the Ikot Abasi Local Government Town Hall, where affected households received essential food items to help ease hardship and support recovery. Items distributed included bags of rice, garri, spaghetti, vegetable oil, tomato paste, seasoning cubes, and iodised salt.

Speaking during the exercise, the Head of Operations of NEMA in Akwa Ibom State, Mrs. Mmandu Aisueni, who represented the Director-General of the agency, expressed sympathy to the victims over the losses suffered as a result of the disasters. She urged beneficiaries to use the relief materials judiciously and reaffirmed NEMA’s commitment to providing timely support to vulnerable communities.

Mrs. Aisueni noted that the intervention reflects the Federal Government’s concern for the welfare of citizens affected by natural disasters and emphasised the importance of community cooperation and preventive measures to reduce future disaster risks.

Also speaking at the event, the Member representing Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo Federal Constituency, Mr. Uduak Udodoh, commended NEMA and the Federal Government for the prompt response, describing the intervention as timely and impactful for affected constituents.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Comfort Ekpotu expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and NEMA for the relief support, noting that the assistance would help cushion the effects of the flooding and erosion while affected families work towards recovery.

The distribution is part of NEMA’s ongoing nationwide efforts to support communities impacted by flooding and other climate-related emergencies, reinforcing the agency’s mandate to provide humanitarian assistance and promote disaster resilience across Nigeria.
