Women Deserve Safe Digital Spaces: WICAN Advocates During 16 Days of Activism

The Women in Career Advancement Network (WICAN), a dynamic community dedicated to empowering women in their professional and business journeys, is urging government agencies, policymakers, and organizations to take decisive action against digital harassment as part of this year’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

WICAN provides mentorship, professional development resources, networking opportunities, and a supportive environment that champions women’s growth and success. The organization’s mission is to mentor and empower women, build strong networks, foster career advancement, and promote inclusivity across all industries and career stages. Its vision is to be a leading platform that inspires and enables women to thrive, break barriers, and achieve their full potential.

“Digital platforms are essential for career growth, but they must be safe spaces where women can exercise their professional voices without fear,” said Eniola Peters, founder of WICAN and author of The Career Smart Woman. “Too many women striving to grow their careers have been harassed online when reaching out to potential employers. This creates unnecessary barriers to professional advancement. We are calling on governments, employers, and tech platforms to implement robust measures that protect women online and in professional spaces.”

Through tailored mentorship programs, leadership workshops, training sessions, and networking events, WICAN equips women with the skills, confidence, and knowledge to overcome barriers, develop professionally, and lead with impact. The community also offers a safe space for women to share experiences, seek advice, and encourage one another, fostering collaboration and empowerment.

Community member Keren Okechukwu highlights the importance of WICAN’s work: “Being part of WICAN has given me access to mentorship and professional resources that help me navigate challenges in the workplace. The advocacy for safe digital spaces resonates deeply with members like me who are committed to advancing our careers in safe and supportive environments.”

During the 16 Days of Activism, WICAN is calling on all stakeholders, government, corporate organizations, and professional networks, to prioritize policies and systems that protect women from digital harassment and create equitable opportunities for career growth. Peters added, “Ensuring women’s safety online is fundamental to their empowerment. When women can engage safely and confidently in digital and professional spaces, they can reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society and the economy.”
