Beyond the Classroom Foundation and GIVING Partner to Keep 80 Pupils in School
Beyond the Classroom Foundation (BTCF), in partnership with GIVING.ng, has successfully supported 80 vulnerable pupils across three LEA primary schools in Abuja under its Set For School Project.
The intervention, carried out on February 3rd and 4th, 2026, focused on removing financial barriers that prevent children from remaining in school. While public primary education is tuition-free, many families still struggle to pay required school levies and related costs. For vulnerable households, these small amounts can result in children being sent home or missing school entirely.
The project covered outstanding school fees and provided essential learning materials to pupils at:
- LEA Primary School Durumi 2
- LEA Primary School Damangaza
- LEA Primary School Karonmajigi
In some cases, pupils who had been sent home earlier that morning due to unpaid fees were immediately called back and allowed to resume classes once payments were made.
Speaking on the intervention, Raquel Kasham Daniel, Executive Director of Beyond the Classroom Foundation, said:
“Sometimes the difference between a child staying in school and dropping out is not tuition, it is small levies that families simply cannot afford. This project reminds us that timely support matters. When we step in at the right moment, we prevent disruption and protect a child’s future.”
During the January verification exercise, BTCF identified families facing severe hardship, including four siblings whose father was recently killed in a tragic incident in Abuja. With their household income suddenly disrupted, the children were at risk of prolonged absence. Through the partnership with GIVING.ng, their fees were settled, ensuring they remained in school during a deeply difficult period.
Mr. Emmanuel, Head Teacher of LEA Primary School Damangaza, also shared:
“We see these children every day, and we know when they are struggling. This support came at the right time. Some pupils had already been sent home, but once the payments were made, they returned to class immediately. It brought relief not just to the children, but to the school.”
The Head Teacher of LEA Primary School Durumi 2 added:
“Even though education is tuition-free, the levies can still be a burden for some families. What may seem small to others can be too much for them. This partnership helped ensure that vulnerable pupils did not lose access to learning.”
GIVING.ng, developed by Sterling One Foundation (SOF), is a digital platform that connects individuals and organizations to verified causes, making it easier for Nigerians to support impactful initiatives. Through this collaboration, practical and immediate support reached children who needed it most.
The intervention highlights a simple but powerful truth: it does not always take large sums to keep a child in school. Small, timely contributions can prevent disruption and protect a child’s education.
Beyond the Classroom Foundation remains committed to working with partners, schools, and communities to ensure that no child is pushed out of school due to financial hardship.
