A Ghana-based non-governmental organisation, Save The Nation For Future Leaders, has issued a formal appeal to the United Nations (UN) urging the global body to take decisive and far-reaching action to reduce rising international tensions and promote lasting peace as a fundamental basis for sustainable development.

The appeal comes amid increasing geopolitical strains involving major world powers and regions, which observers say pose serious risks to international security, economic stability and human well-being. In a letter addressed to the leadership of the UN, the Founder and President of Save The Nation For Future Leaders, Mr. Kwadwo Atta Apeakorang, emphasised that the organisation looks to the UN to lead efforts in diplomacy, mediation and multilateral cooperation to prevent further escalation of global conflicts and restore public confidence in international peace-building mechanisms.

Mr. Apeakorang highlighted that maintaining global peace is central to achieving sustainable development, noting that ongoing and emerging conflicts are already negatively affecting global trade, investment, supply chains, and the safety of communities around the world. He stressed that peace must be prioritised so that resources currently devoted to weapons and military expenditures could be redirected toward environmental sustainability, climate action, and responsible resource management — areas critical for the future of humanity and the planet.

The organisation pointed out that the UN was established with the primary mandate to maintain global peace and security, and expressed concern that what is seen as limited engagement on some critical global developments may undermine public trust in the UN’s historic role. In its appeal, Save The Nation For Future Leaders underlined the interconnected nature of peace and sustainable development, stressing that nations cannot fully address urgent environmental and developmental challenges without a foundation of stability and cooperation.

Save The Nation For Future Leaders also referenced its previous engagements with the United Nations, including petitions submitted in 2023 and 2024 calling for dialogue to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict, followed by a renewed appeal in June 2025 for global peace in response to major international developments. These, the organisation said, demonstrate its consistent belief in the UN as the foremost platform for dialogue and conflict prevention.

The organisation reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with the United Nations on initiatives that connect peace-building with environmental protection and sustainable development. It urged renewed global commitment to cooperation, stability and shared prosperity, expressing confidence that decisive leadership from the UN would help shift priorities from conflict toward peace, sustainability and collective progress.
